Summary: The WebCopy System is a Narrative Archaeology-based website copywriting system developed by Todd E. Jones of Copyflight Media. It is designed for B2B founders and consultants whose website copy sounds generic — with or without AI. This article names the core problem (the Soul Gap) and introduces the WebCopy System as the fix.

Somewhere around 2017, maybe 2018, I built the Website Copy Framework.
It was my method for creating website copy — packaged up at the encouragement of a friend named Paul. He was a web designer. He told me he’d actually used my original freebie to put together a consulting package for one of his clients. That was enough for me.
So I turned it into a product.
Agencies used it to get copy from clients before launching their sites. A coach folded it into her training program. I sold a white label version so people could put their own name on it. Honestly, I sold more copies on Gumroad than I expected. I was pleased.
Then late 2022 happened.
OpenAI dropped ChatGPT on the world. By early 2023, leads dried up. Not slowly. Overnight. Me and a lot of people I know watched it happen in real time.
So I did what I had to do. I started teaching myself AI from scratch. Made prompts. Tested them. Made better ones. And because copy and content is my lane, that’s where I focused. Eventually I knew the Website Copy Framework had to be updated. I added prompts — one for each of the three main pages.
I knew what it was though. An add-on. And not a very good one.
The prompts were early. Thin. I’ll be honest about that. But I was also starting to see something bigger — the real problem that no prompt pack was going to fix.
People were using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini — whatever — but with the weakest possible briefs. And they were getting exactly what you’d expect. Copy that sounds like everybody else. What people are calling AI slop now.
The problem wasn’t the AI (Generative AI is the proper term). The AI was doing exactly what it was told. The problem was nobody was giving it anything real to work from.
That’s when I stopped thinking about prompts and started thinking about a system.

The Soul Gap
Whether you’re writing copy by hand or feeding prompts into an AI, one thing kills the output every time.
You don’t know — or won’t embrace — what actually captivates people about your brand.
Not your features. Not your process. Not your credentials. The thing underneath all of that. The part that’s specific, human, a little harder to explain in a LinkedIn headline — and if we’re being honest, the part you’ve probably talked yourself out of putting on your homepage.
That’s the Soul Gap.
The Soul Gap is the distance between what a founder says about their brand and what actually makes someone stop, lean in, and feel something. Most founders have never closed that gap — not because they’re bad communicators, but because they’ve never been asked the right questions. Or because the real answer felt too personal for a website.
AI didn’t create the Soul Gap. It just made it impossible to hide.
Why It Happens
There are three reasons the Soul Gap shows up in almost every founder’s copy:
The Expertise Curse. The more you know your business, the harder it is to see what’s remarkable about it. You’ve told your story a thousand times. You’ve forgotten which part makes people sit up straight.
The Safety Default. The real story — the gritty, specific, human version — feels too personal for a website. So you sand it down. You make it professional. You make it sound like everyone else.
You have to tap into who you are, your soul, all that you are. Just like the legendary professional wresstler Dusty Rhodes did in 1985.
In 1985, Dusty Rhodes walked into a small studio in Charlotte, NC and cut one of the most legendary promos in wrestling history. No script. No approved talking points. He told Stone Cold Steve Austin on his podcast that he didn’t write a word of it beforehand — he just went out there and spilled his guts. Forty years later, people still talk about it. (Read more about what Dusty taught us about storytelling here.)
Most founders have a story just as real. They talk themselves out of putting it on their homepage.
The Borrowed Brief. This one belongs entirely to the AI era. When a founder sits down with an AI tool and types “write a homepage for a B2B consultant,” they’re handing the machine a blank check. The AI doesn’t know you. So it guesses. It pulls from the shallow middle of its training data and produces something that technically checks every box and moves nobody.
The AI isn’t the problem. The empty brief is.
The WebCopy System

The WebCopy System was built to close the Soul Gap.
It’s not a prompt pack. It’s a Narrative Archaeology workflow — a structured process for excavating what’s actually captivating about your brand, organizing it into a single source of truth, and then using that foundation to generate page-ready copy that sounds like you.
Three things drive it:
The Masterfile Architect — A guided discovery process that digs into your origin story, your differentiators, your real voice, and the details that make your brand yours. The output is your Brand Masterfile: a single document that becomes the context engine for every page you write.
The Echo Discovery Guide — An AI brand coach that trains your AI on how you actually sound, not just what you offer. Because voice is the difference between copy that converts and copy that gets skimmed.
The Page Builders — Specialized prompt engines for your Homepage, About Page, Services Page, Contact Page, and more. Each one draws from your Masterfile so the voice stays consistent and the copy comes out human.
What It Looks Like In Motion
Step 1 — Surface the Ore. Before you write a word, you talk. Voice memos, old notes, things you’ve said to clients but never written down. That’s where the real copy lives — in the unscripted moments, before you had a chance to make it sound professional.
Step 2 — Build the Masterfile. You take that raw material and organize it: origin story, voice, differentiators, the specific metaphors only you use. This becomes the foundation everything else draws from.
Step 3 — Train Your AI on Your Voice. The Echo Discovery Guide runs your AI through a discovery process — not just to prompt it, but to teach it. By the time you’re writing pages, it knows how you sound.
Step 4 — Build the Pages. Each Page Builder pulls from your Masterfile and generates copy that reflects your actual brand — not a corporate approximation of it.
The AI didn’t create the Soul Gap.
It just made it impossible to hide.
You can keep feeding the machine a thin brief and hoping something real comes out the other side. Or you can do the excavation first — surface what actually captivates, build the foundation, and give the AI something worth working with.
Your story is already there.
It just hasn’t been dug up yet.
